While attending a conference in Redding, California I was reading Psalm 27; verse 13 jumped off the page at me, it says, “I would have despaired unless I had believed that I would see the goodnes of Lord in the land of the living”. The Lord reminded me that I must choose to trust Him no matter what I could understand at that point in my personal experience.

This song is a prayer of faith and intercession, we must believe, but we must cry out to the Lord with all that is within us and ask and thank Him for His deliverance and direction in our lives.

I came home from a long hard day almost two years ago and sat down at the piano and started playing. there was all kinds of confusion in the house, but it didn’t matter, Psalm 23 was the result.  The key phrase for me is in the second verse, ” The Lord has not given me a spirit of fear, but of power and love and a mind that sees clear.  Even though I cannot see what lies ahead, I know I can face life without fear or dread”.

The first part of the song is in A minor, the chorus modulates to C. It contrasts the valley of death with the goodness of the Lord.

Song : The Holy One of Israel

The phrase the Holy One of Israel is used almost exclusively in the book of Isaiah, 12:6/45:11/60:14. I wrote this song from chapter 10:17 and 20. “The Light of Israel will become a fire, then the Holy One a Flame.”  The context is God’s righteous judgement of those who reject His authority in their lives.
